simple answer this one.....you buy the best you can afford.
remember at any one time you only realistically have about 2 inches per tyre in contact with the road per tyre...not much when your and other roadusers and pedestrians lives may depend on you stopping and steering.

Yes, i think that more expensive tyres are worth the extra cost.
For example, i have Pirelli tyres on at the moment and when someone stepped out in front of me - i stopped dead on the spot!! This was completely down to the tyres as the car doesn't have ABS.

It's definitely true that you get what you pay for. Cheapo tyres may do the job, but they rarely last long and the roadholding & braking characteristics are poorer. Probably OK for the shopping trolley.
Personally I go for Michelin or Continental - a little more expensive, but certainly superior on the road.

You get what you pay for. Buy the Mitchelins they are a better quality rubber, a safer tyre, will perform better ( example Braking and cornering) and will last longer, working out cheaper in the long run.

I'd recommend paying extra for decent ones. The ride and handling is much more refined - I bought cheap tyres on my car and can feel every single bump and stone on the road.

Firestones are good, and were cheap too. They keep my Vectra steady during rapid cornering and grip well when a trafic lights Grand Prix start is in order. They wear well too.
If I could I'd have 4 Pirelli's on there...and next time, I'm gonna pay the extra and have even more fun on the Tesco roundabout.

Michelin tires don't cost twice as much in my experience, yet they're one of the best tires made. Typically they don't require as many balancing weights on the tire rim as some off-brand tires you can buy. That means they're manufactured better and the extra money you spend will be well worth it in the long run.

depends what car you putting them on. i always go for pirellis on my alfa just coz they give good performance, stop dead in wet (i'm in uk), last ages and look good on my big rims.
i just get remoulds for the misses' rover though at about £15/tyre and they seem to do the job. michelins are good all rounders, but all depends on what you wanna spend.
