Sunday was the day many romans went to their temples. Jesus and his disciplies would begin their Sabbath on Friday evening and end it at dusk Saturday. The Christians took Sunday so they could give the converts a day they were used to and keep them out of the Temples.

Practical, but no big thing in spirituality or any of the rationalizations you'll usually get from Christians. You'll notice that this is one of the times none of the Christians quote the Bible, because it doesn't say exactly what day Jesus arose.

If you want the truth...ask a Pagan.

The 7 day week is both a Roman and Chinese invention (parallel invention or possibly adapted from similar 7 day systems).

From the Roman system from which we Westerners get our reckoning the days were named after the 7 visible "planets" in the sky.

Many of the predominantly Christian nations changed to numbering their days to avoid including Pagan Gods in their calendars. This lead to the new problem of whether to begin the week with Sunday, the first day after Sabbath (Jesus, the Apostles, and many early Christians kept the Sabbath), or Monday which was the first day after the "Lord's Day".

The practical upshot is that the names and order are different in different languages.

Actually, back in the day of Constantine, both saturday and sunday were considered "holy days" to the first Christians. But there are other theories that date back that state that Sunday was a holy day to pagans in terms of worshipping a god, might even been a "sun" god. Some historians state it could have been an adaptation of the Egyptian god Ra. (Notice how in most pictures there is a halo, or a "circle" around any apostle or Jesus himself?) Not really. Too many so called Christians do not keep the Sabbath Day Holy. What happened to the "blue laws"? Understandably, there are certain professions that need to work on that day: our military, police, firemen, hospitals, etc.
but people that don't practice Christian religion should volunteer to work that day so we wouldn't have to.

Sunday is the sabbath. Christian's are supposed to spend their day in prayer and thanks. God was said to have created the world in 6 days and on the the seventh, a Sunday, rest.
