I need help understanding and explaining a problem...

1. When sound waves pass from air into water, their speed increases by a factor of 4. This means that either the wavelength or the frequency also increases by a factor of 4. Which is it? Explain.

thank you

The frequency remains the same an the wavelength is multiplied by four. Visualize a sound wave crest hitting the water, as soon as it enters water, the speed increase by four, so it travels 4 time the distance before the next crest reaches the water.

This is a really good questions that I've never thought about! Since the wave is passing through a medium of greater density, it can be propogated through the medium with greater speed. I would imagine that it is a combination of the wavelength and frequency increasing at the same time, or one increasing greatly with the other decreasing. Maybe it's the frequency increasing?

The wave length increased by a factor of 4 with a constant frequency
Or the frequency increased by a factor of 4 with a constant wave length

The sped of sound relies upon on the medium that it particularly is vacationing nevertheless including however if it particularly is nevertheless a gasoline, liquid, and particular a solid.the cost of sound nevertheless air is 340m/s.inspite of the undeniable fact that it particularly is even quicker nevertheless water going about1500m/s. the cost of sound travels nevertheless solids the quickest in copper it is going approximately 2536m/s so it relies upon on temperature and medium nevertheless which it propogates. .
