Toad familiars?!? I agree with Terry. My totem is a white wolf.
People who were accused of being witches in the olden days often had pets. No pet has ever done magickal bidding of a witch.
I am owned by 3 cats myself, and they do not do magick nor are they interested in it! I do spellwork on them to protect them and make sure they are healthy. But they really don't care, except when I make them take their "medicine". Cats don't like pills or herbs mixed in with their food.

Here we go again with stereotypes. Pagans have pets like everyone else. Pagans sometimes have Totems. Christians get the two mixed up and then try to paint them both black.
My totem is a Whte Hawk. My pets are two cats.
I've never met anyone with a toad totem. A lot of people have "Horned Toads" which are actually lizards as pets.

Well, there was Bob the Toad, and Toady McToad, and Henry the Toad (he was really a frog, but no one had the heart to tell him).
