What if you have bad credit. I am just getting out of a bad marriage. I am just trying to rebuild my credit. I applied for a job that needs to run your credit. What if I have bad credit? What does that do to my chances at the job?

Your credit history also includes things like arrests. They need to make sure they are not putting their company at risk.

Mainly they are looking at your ethics, not score. Bad crdit recently, no biggie, you are simply at a bad time. However, a history of charge backs would show low ethics. late charges indicate lack of organizational skills.

I have VERY bad credit. I will be filing for bankruptcy. I am also unemployed. Credit checks don't tell employers that I am very trust worthy, at my previous job I've handled tens of thousands of dollars by myself and the full deposit always made it to the bank. End of each one of my shifts I was never over or under the register total. I am unemployed because the owner decided there wasn't enough profit this year and decided to close the business. Because of my bad credit I still haven't found a job yet. These credit checks don't tell that I'm a very hard worker. Sorry I may have gone off beat.

Responsiblitity and reliablility. Whether you pay your bills on time or pay your bills at all sometimes shows how you handle responsibilty and whether you have your priorities straight. Unfortunately, its a bad thing for people like yourself. I would ask them and explain to them how you are taking appropriate action to rebuild your credit. I wish things like that were shone in the credit report.

They look at your criminal history. I was told thru my job it was illegal to look at credit history. But that could be just the company I work for. I do the interviews b4 they go to a manager for their 2nd.

Both answers #1 and #2 above are right. ALso, if you are going to be handling money in your new job, they want to know if you have money problems in your personal life, because they want to know if you are going to be tempted to resolve those by putting your fingers into the work kitty.

Your credit history tells a lot about your ability to follow through on committment.

It also is very telling about your trustworthiness.

Simple, they are looking at how reliable you are. Do you pay your bills on time and other little goodies.
