The bad news for the UK is the influx of East European immigrants from Poland and the Czech Republic drove unemployment up from 4.5 to 5.5%.

For the rest of the EU: Luxembourg's unemployment rate is 2.9%, Norway's is 2.9%, Denmark's is 3.8%, Ireland's unemployment is 4.3%, up from 4.2% last month; Sweden's is 4.6%, Netherlands 5.2%, Italy's is 6%, Spain's is 7.5%, Hungary's is 7.5%, Finland's is 7.5%, Czech Republic's is 7.7%, Portugal's is 7.7%, Germany's is 7.9%, France's is 8.5%, Greece's is 8.7%; Belgium's is 8.7%, Slovenia's is 8.7%, Slovakia's is 12%, Poland's is 12.8%. As you can see, some countries in the EU have unemployment at around the US rate, and a couple lower.

Muslims taking over? The European average is about 2-3% -15 million Muslims out of 450 million citizens before the inclusion of the Eastern European countries. Even France, which I assume you are singling out, has a relatively small Muslim population of 7% - they have the most in the EU. France is also one of the countries in Europe where the population is not declining, with an annual live birth rate of 2%.

Some Europeans might envy the US because if you're in some mega-job in the US in certain industries, you will make more money than your European counterpart (unless, of course, you live in Luxembourg or Monaco), but the average European worker makes more than the average American worker - in some European countries much, much more. The average American worker earns just over $32,100 a year (latest statistics), compared to the UK ($46,644) and the minimum age for full-time workers just $11,128 a year for a 40-hour week, compared to France, where it is $19,655 for a 35-hour week and that's not even taking into account health insurance, which is a big financial drain on many Americans. Some Europeans might envy the US for its low tax regime and low cost of living (not including housing, of course). Americans do tend to have more spacious homes than Europeans, but then America has a lot more space than Europe! The bad news for Americans is the inflation rate: it's quite a ways above the EU's - and growing (2.6% in the US versus the Eurozone's 1.8%).

The type of socialism practiced in Europe today is one which is more or less capitalist but guarantees workers all kind of rights. Like the right not to have your job taken away from you unfairly, the right to have a minimum annual holiday of 28 days a year regardless of how long you have worked, the right to work a maximum of 48 hours a week, the right to at least 6 months maternity leave on full pay, access to inexpensive state-funded child care, the right in most countries to a free college education. Which are things I imagine a lot of Americans would love to have.

One area where I don't envy Americans - and I am American -is how embarrassed we are when our fellow Americans make broad statements with no facts to back them up, then get creamed by the facts presented by other people. Whenever anybody posts disinformation about the US, I am the first to correct them. Don't think because you're American I'm going to cut you any slack.

Try for once in your life to be honest and stop dressing up your unfounded opinions as facts. Also, try to wise up to the reality that this is a Q&A forum, not a blog. You ask questions; other people try to answer. Get it?

Why are they jealous? I cant understand why they should be. America is already run by the Muslims. They have you running scared and sending ur troops all over the world whilst they slowly take over America. Have u thought of that.

Yeah right so who lives on junk food and works 50 hour weeks? Who is a brain washed flag worshipper? Who is ignorant of what the rest of the World thinks? Who has crawled so far up his back channel that he can't see reality?

That's right yankee boy you! Why do you think we kicked you rejects out on the Mayflower in the first place? Are you happy with your Christian colony? Not paying too much tax on your tea?

Don't forget their lack of natural resources due to inhabiting that land for thousands of years more than america was and that they have pathetic space programs and therefore no forseeable way of ever rising to superpower status again like China and America except combined as all of Europe.
Anyway I think you just explained why (with my help)
Who wouldn't be bitter and jealous if their cars were smaller, their air was dirtier, they had less jobs, and their whole world was cramped.

Bollocks. We're not jealous. We've got better healthcare, education, art, culture, we've got less poverty and less ignorance. Muslims aren't taking over, I don't know where you got that one from. Democracy and freedom is guaranteed, our media is non-biased, there's almost no gun crime, we've got an extensive social welfare system, we get longer holidays, our air is cleaner, we don't feel the need to threaten to nuke people, unemployment is in single figures, and best of all, we're not ruled by a chimp.
