Yes, you don't need to fit in with a group of people, that won't lead you to getting to know a vast amount of people. What you should do is get to know at least one person from these cliques that you see at school, and then you can accumulate friends of different cliques, and perhaps gain more.

Good luck! ^_^

forget the cliques, high school is a crazy jungle, just get through it! Be yourself, maybe join a club on campus that interests you, usually if you get involved in some kind of club you'll meet some people that share your similar interests and maybe you'll make some friends. I never really fit into any groups in high school, I had a couple people I was friends with. Try not to care about what other people think and do your own thing.

you should not worry about fitting in with any clique, and the reason why I'm saying this is because you are your own person, and if people cannot accept that, then forget them.I know that when you are in high school fitting into a certain group is very important, when you are finished with high school those people you are trying so hard to gain acceptance from will be involved with their lives.i know it can be hard to be an individual, but it take a lot stronger of a person to be themselves, than is does to just go along with the crowd

if in public school, then maybe not. some of us take longer to become who we are. learn who you are and develop the best parts of that being. our ultimate happiness shouldn't be in the approval of others. for me, if someone is kind, creative, intelligent and honest, that is someone i would want to know. but i'm not a young person. some people that know me think i'm weird. i don't care. i have to be who i am.
