Well it's worth the trip, from Playa you can take an Air Taxi with Aerosaab...Located to the northwest of Cancun, Mexico, Holbox Island is just 26 miles / 42 km long. Holbox is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds and creatures.

Take the Whale shark tour for about $85 usd per person Huge whale sharks are the most incredible attraction on Holbox. From June to September, whale sharks swim near Holbox Island to spend the Summer season.

Also known as domino sharks, the whale sharks arrive in small groups. The fishermen of Holbox Island know how to view and swim near the whale sharks without bothering or hurting them.

Have a blast

Please keep in mind that Holbox is very "quaint". If you want to go somewhere that is very laid back, sand streets, not much happening... then Holbox is the place. I love it there, but I like quiet and Playa del Carmen and Cancun are way too much for me. Consider a night in Valladolid and visit Chichen Itza if you go that way. As always, be polite and respectful, the Maya are a gentle and kind people.
