What is a "Trance Club"? What goes on there and why do they call it that?

Are there any of them in the U.S.? Not that I am interested in going - sounds a bit goofy to me - I am just curious. Saw a quesiton on Yahoo about them...

I would guess it's probably a dance club with Trance music.
