okay i know this sounds a little ewww, but it works. I had the same problem when my daughter was this age and believe me i tried everything at the time, but she was so constipated she couldn't keep much down. So her ped eventually told me to get these baby enemas called Fleets baby lax. It's a saline solution you squirt into their bottom that gets things going and pretty much you can buy it from any Target if one is around. Try looking for it at any pharmacy also.....they are completely safe, works in a couple of minutes, and it helps out a ton. Just ask your ped about it. After you get him going, up the amount of liquids you give him and try giving him oatmeal instead of rice cereal....also up the vegetables. Hope this helps.

Are you giving him 4 oz of water a day? Children that have troubles with constipation really need that little bit of water EVERY day! My 6month old has struggled with it since birth and that is what her doc to me to do. Also, I would make sure that your baby doesn't have an allergy to something. My foster baby became constipated due to milk & soy protein intolerance (allergy to the protien found in milk based and soy based formula.) This resulted in a switch to a lactose free formula (Enfamil Nutramigen.) If you are breast feeding, he could be allergic to something you are eating.
If you are starting to feed him solids, things that are common causes of constipation are: Bananas, Apples Sauce & Juice, and Rice Cereal.
Hope this is helpful to you!
Oh, and the karo syrip didn't work for my kids...it just gave them gas! So be aware of that too!

Put a teaspoon of Kayro Syrup (in the baking isle of grocery) in a bottle of warm water (6-8 oz). Dark works best but the light will do the trick too. Should work within about 3-4 hrs. If not try one more bottle. If this still doesn't work, your Dr. may suggest some kind of stool softener.
i did this with both my kids when they had problems and my dr. ok'd it.

Have you introduced a new food to him recently? My Grandson had the same thing and we think it could be that he had too much of a jar of bananas the first time, & he started Oatmel cereal that week.. We reduced the banana intake and made the ceral more liquidy, and he's been fine....just a possibility.

Does he eat solids? Try only fruits and veg for a day or two (in addition to formula, but no cereal or rice). Prunes are good too.

What is he eating. I would change his diet and try pedialite. If he starts to get too much diarreah take him off. That will help get things moving again. Also you can try rectal stimulation. it may help but i would wait it out.
