Make sure that you clean the rubber stopper thoroughly, and then pour a hot water, vinegar or baking soda mixture down the disposal.
Then I use a tray of ice cubes and cut up lemons together, because the ice cubes help "scrub off" any food particles that may be down there, while the lemons help kill odor.
Plus I pour a small amount of lemon juice down the disposal, every week or so, to keep smells away ( a plumber told me this trick)
. For really terrible sink smells, ( if you don't have a garbage disposal) you should take some detergent and mix with some very hot (boiling) water and then pour it in the sink. For stubborn smells, you should use bleach and hot water and then pour it down the sink. Don't use boiling water with the bleach though.

Orange peels, Lemon peels, vinegar...they all work great! I like to use Vinegar to eliminate an odor, then use some sort of peel to make it smell clean! I dump about a cup of vinegar down the drain...while running the disposal! Let some cold water run through it for a minute, then the peel. Good Luck! =0)

Once a week fill the sink a third of the way with water and dishwashing liquid. Then remove the stopper, turn on disposal and let disposal run for a minute after sink drains. This works!

Use a bit of baking soda first, then go with ice. Pour the ice down the drain while the disposal is running.

We usually cut a lemon or orange up into quarters and then grind it up. Wonderful aroma!
