Today I saw a boy at college and he had long black hair and part of it was in a pony tail and he was all dressed in black and he had a long black heavy coat with a lot of buttons in warm weather and the coat was unbuttoned and he had big black boats and a black walking stick that he used and he talked funny.

No, probably not. Emo bois have short hair and generally wear brighter colors. He's probably just a good old fashioned goth!

EMO is when people think others dont understand them because they are different but its really their own fault for not trying to fit in or looking for friends other than emo friends.dont really get involved in the dark side and stuff mostly just do it because they thinks its really them or as a way to get attention
GOTHS these are the highest level serious ones are part of wierd religions/cults they have ceremonies and dress in all black with chains usually
IN BETWEENS those are the people that like rock and punk music usually tend to be freaky and weird but is a good way there are two sides to this stage the serious ones and the funner ones
- the serious people tend t stay quiet see the glass as half empty and cut themselves
-the other half sees themselves as outcasts and anarchists punks,skateboarders,rockers etc.

What you have encountered is not an emo; their natural habitats are coffee shops and record stores. I believe you saw a goth out of it's natural surroundings, but I suppose goths need an education too...

no thats not an emo, that is a goth.
an emo is more "fashionable" and doesnt only wear black. Emos are more into stars and do wear colours with exaggerated make up which looks pretty

unless he is a musical genre, he is not emo. emo means emotive hardcore, a genre of music. gosh people, get it through your heads, a person cant be emo! and why waste your time labeling others? cant we all just wear what we want to?

I think the big thing is, they have to have half their face covered by their hair, to kinda get that spooky "i'm mysterious" look.
I think they wear tight pants and tight shirts too.
maybe that's a new trend tho, I haven no clue anymore.

Could be, but being emo is ultimately a mental state extended to the physical being so you really wouldn't know unless you talked to him.
