There's no disputing that Ferrell is a very successful Saturday Night Live (SNL) graduate. He could actually surpass Sandler in the near or distant future.

Right now, however, Sandler is more successful. He's got mass appeal, has done more hit comedies and several dramas (e.g., Punch Drunk Love, and Reign Over Me), and produced a number of movies.

I would even venture to say that Adam Sandler is the most successful SNL alum ever.

His only competition for Most Successful SNL Alum ever is Eddie Murphy. However, Murphy's involvement in several seedy scandals (i.e., prostitute, etc.) puts the advantage on Sandler.

Plus, we've all seen the movie or the trailer for the movie Norbit. Yeah...Advantage Sandler.

Adam Sandler is the King of all Saturday Night Live graduates. Agree?

I'm getting a lot of Steve Martin, Jim and John Belushi as most successful, and rightly so.

But c'mon...I'm talking about BIG time Hollywood success here, not just a cult following.

I'm talking about mega mass appeal. If we think about those two things, it's really Sandler VS. Murphy, with Adam getting the advantage.

I agree. Adam Sandler has been in a lot of movies. He has also produced and/or directed several movies starring other SNL alumni. Plus, he has released a couple of very successful Cd's.

There are a couple of answers that mention Bill Murray and Steve Martin. Bill Murray is arguably a better actor than Sandler or Ferrell. He might also be as successful, if not more than they are. Steve Martin has been more successful than Ferrell or Sandler, but he was never an SNL cast member. He made so many appearances on the show, a lot of people thought he was.

First of all I love Steve Martin, but I don't remember him being an actual SNL cast member so I can't categorize him as alumni. I know he hosted it on numerous occasions but that isn't the same. Anyhow, Chevy Chase, Dan Ackroyd, and Bill Murray were the alumni "founding fathers" to me...and all very successful. Later, Eddie Murphy was certainly the front runner where success is concerned. Getting back to your subject, I'd say Will Ferrell is absolutely fabulous and I enjoy his work but he seems to shine brighter as a supporting actor. Aside from "Ricky Bobby" I prefer him as an offbeat "extra" in any film where he isn't the main star. Bottom line, I have to agree with you about Adam Sandler. Although I'm not crazy about the serious roles he sometime plays, my family and I will watch Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, etc., and especially The Water Boy anytime they are shown. Actor, producer, writer...he can do it all. Yep...Sandler all the way!!!

I see your point but there are two cast members that deserve a shot at most successful. Mike Myers has done far more blockbusters than Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell. His movies have grossed (worldwide) more than either Sandler or Ferrell. Now I know that is based on money and popularity but what about quality? Bill Murray has been in many highly regarded films. Tootsie, Lost in Translation, Rushmore and he has been nominated for an academy award which only Murphy and Aykroyd have accomplished. I will give you that both are successful but I think that both Sandler and Ferrell are still a smidgen behind Myers, Murray, and Murphy.

Between Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler is the most successful SNL alum. I think the movie Reign Over Me will make him even more successful.

An actor is really successful when they switch from moronic comedy to poignant drama. Hands down--Adam Sandler gets my vote!
