Sue Ellen's sister, Kristen. (performed via Bing Crosby's daughter, Mary Crosby) yet J.R. did no longer press costs against her. He purely sent her out of city with orders in no thank you to return lower back.

It was Kristen. He let her get away with it because she was pregnant with Christopher (who Bobby later adopted) and JR thought the baby was his.
For some reason Trivial Pursuit has it that Sue Ellen did it.
There were several alternate versions filmed, including one where Miss Ellie shot him, but I don't know if these are available anywhere.
