One of Victoria's best known vists was to Emperor Napoleon III of France, which was a state visit. Victoria regularly travelled to France for a vacation every year. She also visited her daughter, the Crown Princess of Germany, and other relations in various parts of Germany and Belgium.

At that time, with travel taking weeks to cross the Atlantic, it was impractical for her to visit North America, or India, which she had always wished to see.

Queen Victoria never travelled to other parts of the British Empire except those immediately around England for a variety of reasons... First of all, very few monarchs before Victoria went to other parts of the world. Remember that Britian is an island, and travel, before airplanes, meant ships or trains. It took some time to get anywhere, and the monarch was expected to stay home, as they were the 'soul' of the country. Prince Albert did the traveling, as well as, of course, the ambassadors, etc. Modern travel has allowed the heads of nations to travel much more so now than back then.

Here is another consideration:
Victoria ascended the throne at 18, married three years later and proceeded to have 9 children. Her beloved husband died when she was 42, after which she spent 13 years in mourning. When she finally re-entered public life at the age of 55, she had to regain the trust and admiration of her own subjects. When would she have had time to do extensive traveling?

I think she did. As someone else mentioned, most of her relations were in Gemany. I also attended a talk about the Royal Victorian Order and remember that its genesis was in her desire to reward those who had helped with her trips; British honours were rarer and highly sought-after on the continent.

I know that she did go to Ireland, but that was part of the UK at the time. She went to Dublin by ship. I read an account telling about the big fuss they made getting ready for a royal visit.
