I bought a PSP at the begining of December 2006. I heard that newer versions of the software on the PSP won't let you download games from the internet or it will lock completley.
Is this true?

Please checked your PSP firmware, if it is 3.10 or 3.11, you will not be able to downgrade your PSP 1.50, which is the basic requirement for playing any illegal downloaded games.

Other version is possible (may requires additional requirements). However, downgrading is a very risky business and can make your PSP completely useless.

Yes. It is true. You need the first edition of the PSP to put games on it.
