How do I clean coffer stains from my glass coffee pot?

I've got a auto-drip coffee make with one of those glass pots. It's got a year's worth of stains I've tried to scrub off but won't come clean. Is there a special solution or something I can use.

Coffee Pot: Forgot and left the glass coffee pot on the heating element and now you have burnt coffee in the bottom of your pot? Simple! Just put crushed ice in the pot along with some salt and swish it around. Rebecca Berry Guinn, TN

If you burn your coffee pot let cool off and then add salt and ice water to it. Stir around for a few minutes and as the ice melts the burned coffee will come off. P. France, OH


To clean it if it has set on the warmer too long, take some rice and a little bit of water, swish around and it should clean. It might take more then one try. Judy, AR


To clean a pot once you have burned coffee in it, put ice salt and squeeze some fresh lemon juice into the pot. Let it sit for awhile or even over night, then clean out. I don't know what it is about this mixture, but this is a trick I learned when working in restaurants. A little lemon juice and salt also works to get the grime off of the coffee pot burner too!! To get the film and burnt coffee stains out of coffee pots, rub baking soda with a cloth inside and out,then rinse. It will look as good as new. Madeline Maehren, LA

Glass Coffee Pot Cleaners


* Method 1: 1 cup bleach
* Method 2: 1/2 cup salt and crushed ice to fill the pot
* Method 3: 1/4 cup vinegar and water

In method one, you put a cup of liquid bleach in the pot and swirl it around. The stains will begin to break up immediately, You can help to speed the proccess by putting on a rubber glove and scrubbing gently with a coarse dish-washing pad. Rinse the pot completely serval times when finished.

The bleach method worked very well, but you really do have to rinse the pot thoughougly to be free of the odor and residue left by the bleach.

In method two, you use 1/2 cup of salt and enough crushed ice to fill your pot about 3/4 full. You're supposed to swirl the pot and watch the stains dissapear. This method doesn't work. Forget you read about it.

In method three, or "the stinking method", you place 1/4 cup vinegar in the water resevoir of your coffee maker. Add water until the resevoir is full. Run the coffee maker. After turning off the coffee maker to let the solution cool, pour the vinegar water back into the resevoir and run the machine again.

The process is supposed to conclude with the running of plain water through the coffee maker. It really ends when you realize that the stains were only partially removed and your entire machine smells like vinegar. At which point, you have to start over with a different cleaning solution.

CLR gets it out 100%. I think directions are on the bottle but you make a solution of like, 4 to 1 (four parts water, 1 part CLR). Let it sit and it should be good as new. Also, you can put the 4 to 1 solution in your coffee maker and let it run 1 cycle. Then, let the coffee maker run a full 12 cup cycle with plain water 4 times. I hate coffee stains. Good Luck.

I put in about half a pot of ice and pour lots of salt all over the ice and hold a towel over the top and spin the ice. The ice will hold the salt and act as a scrubbing agent. Turn the pot upside down over the sink and hold the towel there to prevent the lid from coming open and spin.

I used to work in a restaurant, and we used ice cubes, with about 5 shakes of salt in there, and then we'd swirl it around good. The salt works as an abrasive, getting rid of even the toughest coffee stains. I have used it at home to clean my pots, too. Works wonders!!

I spray mine with Clorox Clean Up and let it sit about a half hour, then rinse well and wash with detergent. That's for coffee stains. It there are hard water stains, the follow the advice of the other answers and try CLR.

Use a product called Dip-It.
It is made just for cleaning coffee makers.
It has a clean, fresh aroma and does a great job.
