depends on what store, and if they are actually looking for employees. stores like best buy only has online applications, but if they aren't hiring they aren't going to check that often (if at all) for applicants. Find out if your store is actually hiring and see if you can get a paper application. Also with turning it in directly, you can introduce yourself and give them a good first impression, which can be in your favor.

Yes, I am starting my new job on monday.
In general, online applications are unreliable though. Your resume and application goes off into a massive Human Resources database. From that point, unless your resume trips a few keywords, no human being may ever see it.
75% of all jobs are gotten through networking. Online applications are not worthless, but not as effective as other methods. Remember, only 25% of jobs out there are from sources other than people you know. Of that 25%, online applications are only about 20%. When we do the math, you can see that online applications produce results only about one time in 20.
Now that I've discouraged you, I'll tell you not to abandon them. Just be aware that online applications generate 1/20th of the jobs out there, so you should only spend about 1/20th of your time on them, or no more than 2-4 hours a week, UNLESS you are told by someone you know that XYZ company is hiring and that you'd be a great fit for the position.
If that's the case, by all means, go for it.

Don't get too worked up over them. I didn't have very good luck with on line employment and sometimes the jobs are unstable or not long term. The best way is to apply on line and then go there and fill out an application, this way they get a chance to see you and you get a better idea how the company treats their employee's.

yeah, the good ol' days are gone... i'm sure all these companies get many resumes online and , believe it or not, some people are more qualified as far as education and experience. you just have to keep trying. something will click somewhere before you know it, you'll wonder why you ever whined about it on yahoo! answers... go for it, keep trying... cast out your lures and pretty soon you'll land a big fish...

People are invited for interviews . . . or not invited based upon the info they put into online applications.
Try creating a template of the usual questions so that all you have to do is copy and answers to the usual questions into the online application.
And be honest. Firms do background checks.

Are they through a reputable site like monster.com? Trust you gut instinct, and be careful what info you reveal. Never give out your social insurance/social security # over the internet. Say you'll supply it in the interview.
