we are going as part of a coach trip to see the tulips etc and have decided to 'go it alone' for a day.sunday 15 april. i would like to take my wife out somewhere interesting, maybe amsterdam direction..is the flower market open on a sunday?what is the situation regarding trains..it looks like the train station is fairly close to the hotel so is the obvious choice. do the local networks have a 'rover ' style ticket for train tram bus networks? can anyone recomend a 'must see' venue? we've been to the red light district and the canal trips and the sex museum etc. thanks.

Nunspeet isn't that close to Amsterdam (although, if you're used to US distances, everything in the Netherlands is close, the whole country is so small :)). You can take the train, but it is about a 1hr 45mins trip ( http://www.9292ov.nl ).

There are other, closer touristy things that are worth a visit. Nunspeet is on the Veluwe, a pretty nature preserve. 1hr 36 minutes will get you to the Kroller Muller museum in the center of the preserve (yes, almost as long as the Amsterdam trip but that was only to the station, this gets you to the doorstep :)). There's the museum itself with lots of modern and older art, among other things a lot of Van Goghs. Also there's a nature museum, there are lots of places to hike and there are 'white bicycles' you can just borrow for free.

Utrecht is only one hour by train and has many tourist attractions too; the Dom is nice, there are several museums, there are many nice little restaurants. Amersfoort, Apeldoorn & Zwolle are even closer but I don't know any particular sights there, perhaps some later visitor will be able to suggest some.

If you want to see the tulips and flowers etc. you should go to the "Keukenhof" it's a big park with lots of flowers.
http://www.keukenhof.nl/
You can go there by car on the highway or by train.
Click on the link above or type it in your browser.
Choose the english language.
Then chose"Routeplanner" > Plan your route. Type at city in "Nunspeet", click at parameters and you'll see on the map the way you have to drive, from Nunspeet to Amersfoort, then to Amsterdam and then the direction Leiden.
But you might also ask for information in your hotel.
The Keukenhof in Lisse is very beautiful in springtime!

Den Haag is very nice to visit, our goverment is residing there
Utrecht is nice, i live there and yes stores will be closed but it's a nice town to walk around in, old buildings.
Amersfoort same thing.
Rotterdam is a modern city, lots of museums to visit and the big harbor, nice things to see there.
