Depends on the individual. I read the other day that only 15 % of womens waters break on their own before labour is established and contractions then soon start. Usually within 24 hours. Many women have to have their waters broken whilst in labour to speed the process up.

Most women will experience contractions first. Some women will have their water break as each woman and each pregnancy is different. I had to have my water broke with all 3 pregnancies, I was induced 3 times.

Every woman is different! With my second son I didn't even know that I was having contractions. I just thought I was cramping cause I was up moving around more than I normally did. Then my water broke. When you have contraction your belly is suppose to tighten up mine never did with either one of my pregnancies.

I had three pregnancies & my water only broke with the second pregnancy. I had contractions for a few hours prior to my water breaking, then the contractions were harder, the closer they came.

Contractions tend to be first. My water never broke it had to be broke by the doctor. I had contractions and labor for 2 days before that.

Think they are 2 different events.
I have contractions early in the morning, then has a emergancy c-section due to baby in breech position. So, my water never got broken.
My friend water broke first then contraction.
Good luck!
