I worked for my current employer for about a year between 2004-2005, then went abroad for a little over a year and then returned to my employer.

Now I am looking for a new job and have updated my resume where I show that I returned to this employer. Does it reflect negatively on me in the eyes of a prospective employer that I returned? or is it no problem?

This is incredibly positive! It would only make the prospective employer consider you in a better light! Here's an employer who probably has many applications to consider. You are experienced and your past employer was thrilled to re-employee you. You obviously are highly regarded.

Not in the least. What looks good is that your former employer took you back.

It's no problem. That happens a lot more than you think, and to people who are well along in their career paths, too.
