It depends... maybe due to their accent but if you're going to stay on their place & communicate frequently with the Ilocanos.. you will be surprised to know that it's not really that hard to learn the Ilocano dialect. Tagalog is known nationwide since it is the official or nat'l language in the Phils. Good luck. (--,)

I don't think so. Filipino dialects are pretty much the same in terms of grammar structure, syntax, etc... there are varying degrees of differences when it comes to vocabulary but, like I said, learning Tagalog or Ilocano or Cebuano is pretty much the same...

Anyway, I think that you should learn Tagalog first because almost EVERYONE in the Philippines know Tagalog but only the Ilocanos (and some who has a dialect close to Ilocano or those who did study it) know Ilocano...

True. Ilocano is hard to learn and involves alot of accent and inflections of tone. My wife speaks it as well as tagalog and Pangalotok.

Yes actually. It easier because you don't really need an accent to speak it. Not like Ilocano. But, I can speak both of them. ;)
