you have to download the item you want, sims ,objects houses etc...
it transfer automatically to your game. all you have to do is check your inventory on the game and you will find it.
but if its a sim you download you have to go to create a sim and then in customs you will see the sim you downloaded . objects should appear on your inventory menu as well as houses.

You can't play Sims 2 from the website. You buy the game at a store and then get "extras" from the internet (I would tell you more but I've never gotten stuff online). Think of it like Walmart.com; you don't actually get the things there, but you can learn about it and order things.
There IS a Sims online... but I have never downloaded it so I don't know if it is safe or even if it is any good.
