I LOVE 'em! I own a pit bull, and she is such a sweet heart. Her two best friends are my kitties. They sleep together, and my pit bull is very gentle with them. She loves kids, adults, dogs and cats! But my dog is also very well trained, and well socialized. She gets out to meet new people and dogs everyday. We work on training everyday. A dog's behavior is directly related to how it is raised by it's owner. Any dog breed can become aggressive, and any dog breed can be raised as a loving family companion. I was attacked by America's most beloved breed, a GOLDEN RETRIEVER! He left scars on my face. This dog was not trained and socialized, and the owner neglected the fact that it was aggressive. And I have met Hundreds of pit bulls who just want to give you kisses. It all depends on how they are raised.

I think it is their nature to be aggressive, even when they are not provoked. Just yesterday, I saw yet another story in the paper that a child was killed by a pit bull. She was only playing nearby. Attacks by pit bulls account for about a THIRD of all fatal maulings. I think they are just too dangerous to be kept as pets.

I personally think in order to own one people should be required to have the dog trained, always on a leash and know how to handle them. Some people see owning that breed of dogs as a way to look cool and do not bother to keep them under control. I think all dogs should have a loving and caring home and part of caring for them should be teaching them proper behavior.

I like the dogs, though I have never owned one. I know they are notorious for fights, bites and the like - but I have been around several that are friendly and nice pets.
My home owners insurance told me I couldn't use their company if I owned this type of dog, I suppose the risk is too great for them to take. But isn't that what insurance is for in the first place? Go figure...

HI
The pit bull could be a nice dog if the owners made them that way. I always say if it is an aggressive dog he has an aggressive owner.

They are not to be trusted. A lot of the mauling cases you hear about are the children of the dogs owners. If you can't trust your dog with your own children, it is worthless and should be shot in the head.

They should be rid of. It's wrong for someone to carry an illegal weapon... pit bulls are a weapon. I fear for my kids whenever their is one around.

Depends on the breeding. All dog lovers know that a dog's temperment is inbred. All dogs, no matter the breed, have a pack instinct. If you cannot be the pack leader of that breed, then you have no business having one. With the right leader, your dog is fine! The owner is to blame for his animal, not the animal.
