According to Christian faith. When does marriage really start? After you make your vows in front of our Lord and take each other as husband and wife or after you sleep together (after making vows too, of course)? I'm confused as to whether youre really married even before the wedding night but after the ceremony? What happens if for whatever reason you can't be intimate with your husband/wife for a while after you made your vows and not because you don't want to but because it's just physically not possible at the moment? Does that mean you're not really married?

The marriage starts when you say your wedding vows and take each other as husband and wife. The marriage starts with the ceremony. Having sex just consummates a marriage that already exists. If it happens that the marriage isn't immediately consummated, that doesn't mean you aren't married. Some couples don't immediately consummate the marriage because they're just too tired that night, the bride may have her period, they have to get up early the next day to go on their honeymoon, etc. Ultimately, it is a good idea to consummate the marriage.

Marriage is when you take the marriage vows. Sex (after being married) consecrates the vows. Some people get an annulment after taking the vows but have not had sex. Not saying that lack of having sex is the only grounds for an annulment.

Commitment can start earlier, but "marriage" starts after the vows are made.

If you can't be intimate with your partner that night, you are still married, BUT the marriage can be annulled. Even so, you are still married.

Live well~

You have to consumate the marriage. (Sex that is) in order for it to be valid in the eyes of the church. However, I believe that once you take your vows in front of God and everybody, you are truly married. Good Luck!
