I live in New York City, and the combination of a heavy rotation of houseguests and a tiny Manhattan apartment has made an inflatable mattress an invaluable investment.
Recently, a few friends stayed over me house cuz it was too late to go home and they were a bit drunk. I let the couple sleep in my bed, and me and my friend crashed in the living room. I on the couch and she on the air mattress. Anyway when the couple woke up, they asked me to borrow the air mattress cuz they'd have a couple of guests in town. A week later, when I went over their house for dinner, I noticed the mattress deflated in the living, and I asked them why they hadn't use it. They sheepishly admitted that it was broken.
Here's the dilemma. They said that they tried to inflate it when they got home, but there was a leak somewhere, so the guests just crashed on the couch and floor. I'm fairly certain that it wasn't broken when I gave it to them, after all I just used it! Could it have broken in transit?

Regardless, the offered to buy me a new one. I feel bad since they didn't even get to use it one time, but it was fairly expensive and I did lend it to them in working order. It's a complete mystery how it got broken... They are really good friends. Is it right to let them buy me a new one?

Yes let them buy you a new one and then if they still need to use it, or will need it in the future offer to lend it to them.

it is ok to let them pay if they offer... if they dont then try to bring it up in a quite manner...if they really cant pay then just put it all behind nad buy a new one...if the relationship is really good between you and them then dont let a matress get in the way.

No no dear, don't and never ask them to buy new one for you. the God that gave you that one will still provide another one for you. Right!

Let them replace it. They wouldn't have offerred to replace it unless they damaged it. Accept their offer graciously and then forget about it.
