Depending on the how you take the question. Are we looking into the future as a franchise or is this going to be for a one time thing (All-star game, Olympics, etc). As for my team it would be this.

1) Crosby (C) - best player in the league right now... and only going to get better in the future.
2) Brodeur (G) - most consistent goalie in the league, will also provide leadership and experience to the team.
3) Ovechkin (LW) - also one of the top players in the league, young and has a bright future.
4) Gonchar (D) - one of the better quarterbacks of the PP and great leader to a team with younger players.
5) Hossa (RW) - great set up man... relatively young and once again... still has a bright future in the game.
6) Whitney (D) - one of the best... if not the best, rookie D men in the league. Solid hands and a mighty shot - his game will only get better with game experience.
7) Malkin (C/LW/RW) - this guy can play any forward position and is a threat with the puck. Top rookie and one of the future stars in the league.

And no I am not a huge fan of the Penguins, I just feel they have a VERY VERY strong team even with the age of their players right now. If they can somehow hold on to these guys until their prime... that team will be unstopable.

If I had to chose 7 players from the NHL to form a team. My first choice would have to be a goaltender, which would of course be Martin Brodeur. Second choice would have to be Sidney Crosby for Center. My third choice would have to be Alexander Olvechkin as my Left Wing. My fourth choice would have to be Evgeni Malkin as a possible RW. My defensemen would have to be Dion Phaneuff and Chris Pronger. My last choice would then have to be a Center and none other then Joe Thornton.

By far this lineup could go against anyone and man handle any team in the league. With its size and speed there is no one that could even come close to this type of team.

The two goalies would have to be Brodeur and Luongo... They're easily the two best in the league and are really on their own level...

My defensemen would be Scott Nidermayer and Nick Lidstrom. Both are smart defensemen, great leaders, and are multi purpose defensemen. They'd both be entirely capable on the powerplay and the penalty kill.

My center would be Crosby. He's the best set up man in the league and would completely compliment two goal scoring wingers. He could run the powerplay.

Left Wing would be Ovechkin, the guy is on the verge of back to back 50 goal seasons with no real support. Line him up with Crosby and the results could be disgusting.

Right wing would be Marian Hossa. He's definitely got the scoring touch, but I like his two way ability. He's the only one of my three forwards who would be a key penalty killer as well.

RW - Jagr
C - Crosby
D - Souray
D - S. Niedermayer
G - Brodeur
G - Kiprusoff

Yes, Jagr and Ovechkin would be fighting for the puck all the time, but when Crosby fed either one, there would be a goal most of the time.
