I had all my usual pre-menstrual symptoms before the day I was actually supposed to start my period this week including the cramping and just "feeling" that I was about to start my period. I am 2 days late now but I did see what seemed to be spotting but it was almost non-existant and I only saw this when I used the bathroom and wiped on the toilet paper. It has not been heavy enough to leak on my underwear. It was a brownish-very light redish color. The color most resembled how it looks on the last day of my period but with an extremely light to non-existant flow. I took a pregnancy test this morning but didnt take it the first time I had to go to the restroom and it came back negative. I know it is recommend taking it first thing in the morning but I was nervous. Me and my partner use the withdral method and other then possible pre-ejaculation has never come inside me. Did I take the test too early or could this be something else?

There can be a number of reasons for false negatives. It may be too early to tell, depending on which test you took. Try again in a few days, and be sure to take it right away in the morning.
