I have a very heavy hand carved chest from India. When it arrived from cargo, it was put in the garage and left there. I would like to find a method of transferring it into my home. Thanks.

Strap it to a dolly. You can find one at like lowes or home depot. Maybe you can borrow one.

Get some help. You don't want to damage it trying to move it by yourself. You can rent a dolly/hand cart from any Uhaul or other moving company if you don't have a neighbor with one, but even with a dolly you'll have to have the strength to roll it up the stairs and you risk smacking it on the door jamb. Wrap it in blankets to help if you plan on doing it by yourself. Ideally, find a couple sturdy young men to give you a hand...we love being useful!

You could try a "dolly". Or if you have any young guys in the neighborhood, offer them a few bucks to give you a hand:) Try asking a neighbor if they know anybody that you could hire to do it, and someone will probably offer to help you for free:)
Good Luck!!

They sell sliding disks for heavy objects. Mostly used in the house. Put it on a blanket and grab the xtra blanket and pull it or drag it up the stairs. even wrap it in the blanket so when you drag it up the stairs it won't fall back down and it won't scratch also.

using plywood, strong rope, and a pully system, followed by ice and heat for her sore back.

or, get really mad and focus that energy to heave the thing up, also followed by sore back treatment.

a better alternative would be getting some help instead of doing it alone.

Wear a sexy mini skirt with stilletto pumps and low cut blouse. Then knock on your sexy neighbor's door and desperately look and him and say: "i'm so embarrassed, but can I borrow your big, strong muscles for a moment?"

Get help. Don't try to do this yourself. You will end up injuring your back and you won't be able to lift even 5 pounds.
