We had the same bright ideals that we could solve the European question regarding territory, blame etc. Again we treid to help both Allied and Axis powers rebuild. We fought for an international body to settle disputes without war. After WWI it was League of Nations(the US never joined) and WWII was the United Nations(we were a charter member).

Is this a homework assignment? I ask this because I want to know if you have a text book. You can check through the text book to get a general idea.

Also- check the public library. Ask the librarians to show you books on America between the wars. The U.S. has a policy of "Isolationism" after WWI not so after WWII (the war and the atomic bomb changed that).

So, to get specific details, you will need to look more into why the U.S. was 'isolated' and why it became more active after WWII.

You can also check on-line- try something like U.S. Foreign Policy 1920-1941, 1945-present (or something like that)

I think that the US always tries to lean towards Washington's statment about "no entangling alliances" and also isolationism. Although WWI broke isolationism, it is still a reoccurring theme.
