I am going to college in the fall so I am looking to buy a laptop...the problem is, I'm not really sure exactly what I should be looking for. So if someone could just give me a few pointers and tips it would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Go with an HP or Dell for college work. If you can find a laptop that has about 100GB, and 512 MB of RAM. It might also be a good idea to go and buy the most recent version of Microsoft Office. It has EXCEL, WORD (good for reports), and Powerpoint with so much more than I can't list. Like I said, HP or Dell laptops are your best bet for best performance. Good luck with school in the fall!

Toshiba makes some very nice laptops.
I'd look for at least 2.8MHz Intel processor (not Centron)
512 MB Ram. 120GB HD. CD/RW so you can back-up data. 17" display if you expect to spend hours on it although 15" is fine. Built-in dial-up modem, Ethernet and wireless if possible for all connectivity cases.

Beyond that, may depend on what you intend to study. Increase RAM and HD if study may involve heavy use of graphics like animation, video or CAD.

Be aware there is often highly discounted software for educational purposes, so check into that before spending to much up front on software.

the best advice is to get the best you can afford
things to look out for
1 hard disk size min of 40Gb larger is better
2 memory min of 512Mb go for more if you can
3 graphics card at least 64Mb on board memory go for more if you can
4 in a laptop battery life min of 4 hours

One that's not a dell, if you want something reliable. I would recommend one of these.
