At the age of 17 you are still maturing and still finding yourself. What or who you like at 17 you will probably not like in 10 years. Think back even 4 years ago, do you still like the same things? It is all a part of growing up.
Now the emotional side is all about hormones. Most people eventually grow into theirs and become accustomed to them while others remain emotional.
I know for myself, i truly do not want to relive my teenage years!

Love is attainable at any age, as is death and happiness. Experiencing any of these is a learning experience at a young age. Your dog dies, you learn to grieve and how to let go. You get that bike you wanted for Christmas, you find true happiness for a time. You fall in love(so you think, most young love is merely puppy love, for at that age we don't understand intimacy and sacrifice and compromise)and then you inevitably lose your first love, and learn not to let yourself fall in love so easily.

Love it cultural, and in our culture it happens around that age. You have learned to be emotional about it because you have observed others doing the same thing.
