I heard there's something in a calking tube that is like chimney morter...can I repair the old chimney top with it?...anyone know if the stuff is any good or not? Or should I just get a new top on the old chimney?

I would say by the time you shop around could be more damage..I would go for a new one especially if the chimney is old..

My neighbor had her chimney top and some of the bottom (to blend in the look) done with replacement stone/rock pieces. They look like a white/beige stone. Mixed in with the brick as a partial accent looks really cool. Undoubtedly some chimney and masonry specialists in the area that will do it for you.

Their is a epoxy that mixes in a caulking tube , this might do the trick . Chip out the crumbling mortar and inject it in and tool with some plastic spoons so you can just toss away when done.

usually if you can chisel or better yet grind the old mortar out without the brick falling out you should be able to get by pointing it. hard to say sitting in my living room. get a trowel , a 3/8 tucking tool, and a striking iron. clean out joints and splash them out with a wet brush to get rid of dust. mix mortar as stiff as you can and still use it and tuck in the joints. when almost set strike the joints and brush with a dry brush to get the snotters off. good luck...
