I had bitten my nails for well over 25 years and was able to quit for almost 7 months. Well, my husband and I just quit smoking and I have been bitting like crazy today. My long nails are totally gone. Does anyone have any tips to help me get my nails back?? Please don't say light a cigarette. I need some serious advice. We have been on the patch for almost 24 hours. Will my nail bitting stop once my cravings for a smoke go away??

I have heard quite a few people say that nail biting causes bad eye sight, although it is actually a medical myth. Similarly to reading in the dark, it can bring on bad eye sight though, and here's how: Doing things like reading in the dark and biting nails can cause the eyes to strain, which is unhealthy. I am a perfect example. I am near sighted, so I use glasses to see far. When I look at something close up all of a sudden like my nails - with or without glasses - my eyes hurt because they strain. But the actual biting of the nails itself has NO connection whatsoever to worsening eye sight. If you are straining your eyes biting your nails, or if you simply would like to break this habit, try special nail "polishes" (they are clear!) that taste awful and stop you from biting. Good Luck!
