Making different playlists doesn't always work out fine and it's a little messy. But there are other two things you can do.

One is to set the iPod to update manually, that will let you drag and drop songs instead of having it synched automatically everytime you connect the iPod. This will let you manage the songs more precisely. To set the iPod to update manually follow this steps:

1. In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane and click the Summary tab.
2. In the Options section, select “Manually manage music.”
3. Click Apply.

This also will let you connect the iPod to any computer you want and loading songs into the iPod without deleting everything on it. This is what I recommend you to do.

The other thing you can do (if you have Windows) is to set different Windows Accounts, one for you and one for your mother. This will let you have different iTunes libraries.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Ok calm down, You just need to set up another playlist on iTunes and high lite the songs you want in that playlist and then right click with the songs still highlited then click copy and go to the other playlist and right click again and click paste. A question might pop up like... Are you sure that you want to transfer these files? Then say Yes. Then it might say "Are you sure that you want to delete these songs from your playlist? Then say Yes again. I hope that works for you! BOF (best of luck)

Plug in your ipod and click on the button that takes you to the ipod summary.
There should be a check box that enables you to manually sync the songs.
