I can totally relate. I did ballet as a little girl but I quit. As I got older, My high metabolism slowed down dramaticallt and I started gaining weight. I lost a lot of my flexibility. Now, I am a ballet dancer again and it was easy. You are already a little familiar with the dance and even if you don't think you remember any of it, it will come back to you within a few weeks. I quit for 12 years so if I could do it, you can too. It is definatly not too late.

What do you mean "stress hit you"? You have got to learn to manage stress and not to put so much pressure on yourself. You really need to figure that out while you are young or it will affect you all your life. You CAN start ballet again and I encourage you to do so, but you are almost certainly too old to think about being a professional ballet dancer especially if you stress out about it again. If you want to dance to keep in shape and have fun that is fine. You can also start Jazz and/or Modern dance too and have a lot of fun. At 14 you can regain a lot of flexibility and your body will "remember" a lot even though its been a few years. Just don't get your heart set on thinking you have a chance at becoming a professional ballerina or other dancer because your chances are almost zero. Even if you did have the talent I think that "stress" would burn you out this time just like it did last time. I am NOT saying this to be "mean" (I will leave that to Simon on "American Idol"), but to be realistic. Good luck

I'm forteen also, and I have done ballet since I was four. I love ballet, along with competing in other disciplines. It is definitely NOT too late!! There are lots of beginning dance classes, that would be good to start out with at first. And being flexible isn't all it's cracked up to be. I have always been able to do all of my splitz and leap and kick and everything, but sometimes it's way harder to hold things, or control your movements. And wow, I wish I could play the flute. I play the clarinet, and it's not all that great. Go for it, and "Dance like nobody's watching!!!"

I don't think flexibility will be your issue. Remember why you had to quit in the first place, and where you are headed this time?
The first thing you said was, you were forced to quit due to stress. The second thing you said was, you are one of the best in (flute) Texas. The third thing you said was, would you be as good as before?
You are very competitive and you push yourself to the point where stress is overwhelming, or be the best, or which ever comes first. You need to learn to pace yourself.
Would your flexibility come back? Sure. 14 is still young. With proper training, anything is possible.

It is never too late to study ballet, so go ahead and take class if you parents agree. But I am more concerned about your stress issues. If you take it, take it for the sheer enjoyment and do the best that you can, but don't let it consume you or cause you stress. You don't have to be the best to enjoy something. Just take dance classes for yourself and the sheer joy of dancing.

It's never to late to re-start something. Some dance studios even have beginning classes for adults. Your not the only one without flexability, I've been taking ballet since I was five. I wasn't flexable then and I'm not flexable now.

NO,and this is why... muscle has memory! if you practice everything and do the basics at least 17 times you will jumpstart your body into remembering what it used to do and it will help you regain part of what you lost ,flexibility can be worked on just need to be dilligent and want it bad enough.
take it step by step again and practice!

It's NEVER too late. All you need is drive. If you want to dance, and you are dedicated to the art, then go for it! My biggest suggestion is stretch everyday, at least 2 times a day. Get a pilates video and work through it. Pilates was made by a dancer, for his dancers. Good luck!

If it warms your heart doing ballet then go ahead and strive for your dreams. Even if you did lose your flexibility, it doesn't matter. You'll just start over and get better and better. It is never to late to strive to fullfil your dreams. Even your wildest. GOOD LUCK!!!!
