I still don't consider Ovechkin when I think of the best. In terms of young stars he is but not overall IMO.
Thornton and Jagr probably get the most votes for that one. St.Louis was the best one year. Iginla was the best one year. Sakic has always been solid. A couple of years ago, most people might have said Forsberg was the best player actually, yes, he was regarded as the best before the lock-out.

Pre-lockout was Peter the great, no doubt about it.
Now I'd almost hold Thornton in the high regard with Crosby and may even say Thornton is THE BEST.

In my opinion the best players are those who can not only score but play two way hockey justy as well,
