Mostly in the Middle East in the modern day areas of Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Most of the battles took place in the Israel, Syria, Lebanon area with the ultimate goal of Jerusalem of course.

It actually depends on which Crusade you are talking about. There are about a dozen with battles occuring in numerous areas throughout Europe and SW Asia (Middle East). The overall goal of the Crusades were to take back the Holy Land in Jerusalem.

European Christians (from modern day England, France, Spain, etc.) headed to modern day Israel to reclaim it in Christ's name (it was occupied by Muslims, and to a lesser extent, Jews).
