My wife is having irregular menstrual cycles about every 7 days. She has no clue why. Sometimes she will have them every week and another it will be about 10 days. They are usually very heavy. My wife doesn't drink or smoke and does aerobics about 3 times a week. She is 50 years of age. What in the world could it be?

This is definitely caused by the hormone imbalance due to menopause. My mother went through the same thing for about 3 years from when she was 50 to 53 until she had a hysterectomy. There is hormone therapy that can help but it can often increase the risk of ovarian and breast cancers. She should see an ob/gyn to explore her options for dealing with her hormone imbalance.

She is cycling down for menopause. She should see a gyno anyway just to be sure it's not something else.

I think she may be getting ready for menopause. Talk to the doctor about it!

she should go see the doctor. he would probably put her on birth control just to get her cycle regular again, until she hits menopause.
