I drove a Legacy GT in my search for the 6-cylinder Outback I ended up with. The car - identical inside to my Outback - is very comfortable. With a heated 8-way power seat (with adjustable lumbar support) and a tilt-wheel, it's hard not to fit the car to your preference. A telescoping wheel would be nice, though.
I'd say it's fast, but some might not. Zero-to-60 is about 7 seconds. You might do better with power braking, getting the revs up to about 3,000 before you go. You are in the turbo range by then. It will not "blaze" off the line, otherwise. Once you hit 2,800-3,000, though, it will pull quite steadily up to 6,000 rpm. You can go from 40-to-70 (passing) like nobody's business. Take a test drive with a friendly salesman who will let you check this out for yourself.
Is it worth the money? It would be worth MY money. It's a sleeper car. It fades into the crowd so it doesn't draw attention with its looks, but it will pull away from the crowd any time you want to. I've driven my Outback (the '06 one) on a 400 mile trip and experienced no fatigue at all.
If you want a killer car, of course, look at the Legacy GT Spec. B. Zero-to-60 is about 6 seconds.

Additional: The car I drove was very smooth, but it only had about 20 miles on the odometer, too. My 6-cyl. Outback is smooth as butter, but not (ultimately) as fast as the turbo. It's quicker off the line, but then the turbo would easily beat me to 60.

I own a 98 us spec BD5 Legacy and have driven every generation. In Japan they offer an STi package now. Extremly fast and smooth cars, the new turbo model is well worth the asking price. Make sure you test drive an Wrx while you're there.

It's a bit small compared to other competitors and they are pretty fast, 0-60 in about 8 seconds. I think it is worth 28,000, depending on how many options the car has.

A great car with a good safety rating. The turbo is better with the manual tranny. The interior is well appointed and comfortable-car is very quick and doesn't get loose. If any car is worth the price this one is. Enjoy!

Absolutely, the Manual transmission car will do 0 to 60 in under 6 secs, many car magazines have tested it at between 5.3/5.7.
