Galileo believed the Copernican theory (planets that orbits around the sun) because he predicted orbits of the planets did not match the reality according to the theory that Earth was the center of the solar system. The only way to have the orbits make sense was to have the planets orbit the sun. Then the regular elliptical orbits matched the observed motion of the planets.

I think that you have a good start here, its just that you tend to have some run on sentence ideas and get a bit wordy. Try something more like the following:

Galileo’s belief in the Copernican theory is based on his own predictions that the planetary orbits did not match the accepted belief that the Earth was the center of the solar system. Galileo observed that in order for the regular elliptical orbits of the earth to be true, indeed the planets must then orbit around the sun.

Hope this helps

Sorry, but it's just wrong! The planetary orbits predicted by Copernicus were no better than those predicted by a geocentric theory because Copernicus still thought the orbits were circular. It wasn't until Kepler realised the orbits were elliptical that it was possible to accurately predict them.

The reason that Galileo accepted the Copernican system was that he observed the phases of Venus. They could only happen if Venus was orbiting the sun
