I am going to take chemistry in 11th grade (right now i am in 10th grade) I heard chemistry is really hard, and I wanted to know if there are any websites, places, books, or anything that teaches the basics so I can be prepared. Yes, I probably will go to extra help and maybe get a tutor when I am taking chemistry, but is there anything that would be useful before taking chemistry? Thanks =)

The first 2 links are good sites that I use for teaching materials. The third is the American Chemical Association 's page of recommended sites.

Make sure that you have basic algebra under your belt before you begin. Also make sure you understand significant figures, unit conversion, and scientific notation before you begin learning chemistry. Having those under your belt before you begin will help as you get more involved in chemistry.

Someone recommended Zumdahl, I believe that there are two books out there with that writer. If you get one of Zumdahl's book (I would just wait until you get to the class before getting a book) make sure to get the one written by Steven and Susan Zumdahl (they're husband and wife I believe), it is much better than the other Zumdahl book I've seen (it's only written by one of them, I don't like its approach).

The real trick to chemistry is doing practice problems, make sure you do as many problems as possible. If you become familiar with the material the class will go well.

Hope you enjoy chemistry.

-----Some find basic chemistry really hard, others do not. Perhaps some find it hard because it is so different from their everyday life. Also, there are "right" and "wrong" answers in chemistry as in any science. In the softer fields, like poetry, you can argue anything. Do not be so afraid of chemistry that you "lock up". You are wise to prepare for taking chemistry, as you would be for any subject. ---Jim, college chemistry effective minor

Forget about learning from the internet. You will not find a better textbook than Chemistry by Zumdahl. Buy it, study it, love it. It is the best general chemistry book written.
