Ever have an Ant Farm as a kid? On average...a 'worker' ant only lives 1/2 a year. Crazy, huh?

Neanderthal Human (way back when...dinosaurs and stuff) only lived an average of 20 years. I guess the only reason that Humans outlive their pets now is because of all the medical advancements. Otherwise animals would outlive us!

Lifespan depends on the pet, and the care given to the pet. Birds like Muloccan Cockatoos, horses, and even goldfish can potentially live more than 20 years.

I think it has alot to do with the natural development of the animal. Every thing about them is faster thier heart rate, thier growth rate, therefore thier lives go buy faster. On a positive note the short amount of time our pets do spend with us are filled with moments of love, and non-stop careing. We can learn a thing or two from our pets.

Because they're dogs and cats. They become independant at a much younger age than humans, and capable of breeding much faster. therefore they do not need to live very long.

Because we are different species. Certain birds live over 80 years and tortoises have been reported to be over 200.

To teach us compassion, loyalty, trust, unconditional love. Its not fair that they have such short lives, but it also teaches us to cherish the ones that we love.
