St. John's Wort, works well for depression/blue periods. If you do choose the St. John's, check the label for mixing with other meds. It can cause some problems if you are on an anti-depressent, and add this. You can also use Estroven, or the WalMart version is called Equateblend. It is a combination of black cohosh and other herbs that help with menopausal women, both post and pre menopausal. If you are not in that group, the herbs can still help you with irritability, it does well at calming and you are not as likely to "snip, snap" at someone, not as defensive like I guess. Anyway, pretty cheap, 10bucks for Estroven, 6bucks for Equateblend. These can be found in health stores and pharmacies as well.

Hi try herb teas, they are usually a safe way to go & you can try them out to see if you like them.
Lessing PMS effects: Raspberry Leaves Tea is great! Make sure though its 100% raspberry leaves--not raspberry flavor & dried berries--& btw the raspberry leaf tea doesn't take great so add some honey!
Bad mood or depressed feeling: Try St John Wart's tea.
Calming: Chamomile tea.
There are also "PMS" blends at herb stores for teas--that (probably but you should ask the clerks) contain for all 3 issues as PMS is fairly common for causing everything you are asking about.
I also know from my own research that taking a multi-vitamin that is high in B6--helps increase the lifting of spirits during your period! And fish oil, make sure an EPA (deep sea fish) is taken to assist with overall energy!
A higher dose of calcium w/ magnesium can help you with cramps & cravings but it can make you sleepy so keep that in mind.
As well, getting a lot of sleep, avoiding caffeine, and all that general "healthy" stuff will help at this time fo the month specifically!

St johns Wort is deffinatly the best, also make shure you keep your omega 3 levels up with a good quality supplement (its best mixed with omega 6 (evening primrose) to help balance hormones) B vitamins are also really good, i normally recomend b-6 for hormone balancing but a good b-complex is good aswell as the b vitamin really help boost your energy levels (just look at the back of a Red Bull for proof) which can really help when feeling 'down'.
Also just thought, a product called 5-HTP, its a naturally occuring substance in the body so is safe to use etc... It effects your dopamine receptors to improve mood and sense of wellbeing and has had great feedback, shold be able to find it in a good health shop...

Lavender Essential Oil is a common mood altering oil. It helps in 2 different ways, and you can put it directly on your skin, other Essential oils need to be "watered" down. If you use more Lavender, it will give you energy, if you use less, it will calm you. I've found 1 or 2 drops (total can be spread over quite an area) on any hot spots that you would usually put perfume helps my day go quite smoothly. Up to 5 drops in a nice warm bath goes a long way to.

A local Detox and Rehab I work for uses omega 3 fish oil 2000 mg 3 times a day, 5 htp 100 mg 2 times a day (might make you sleepy if it does take 1 time a day and only at night) A good multi vitamin 2 times a day, vitamin c 1000mg 2 times a day vitamin B 2 times per day and SAMe ( follow directions). They use these for mood stabilazition, I have been on them for about 6 mos and my family has noticed a BIG difference in my mood swings, I also feel better and more relaxed. you can also try to find calms forte, and seda plus. to use as needed for anxiety or sleep. Good Luck

i have found that just taking a good multi vitamin helps lift my mood. If you have a good diet rich in veggies and water it also helps. Caffeine makes me grumpy and feel like i am stressed even if i have nothing to stress over.
Also doing a little exercise can work wonders to help u unwind in the evenings I like taking just a 15min walk at the end of my day.
You should try if for about a week i promise you will b better.

SAM-e supplements by Nature made, you will see it at Whole Foods! You'll feel much better, it's been a Godsend for me. It's natural, not a drug, your body recognises it as a natural substance already found in our bodies. No side effects, no jitters, all of a sudden you just feel fine and it's all good in the hood. It's a ray of sunshine. You won't be disappointed!
