Any PCIMA card will work on your laptop, if you have a slot open. If you're looking to upgrade your speed, and your laptop is relatively new, your card is probably 54mbps (Wireless G). The next step up is Wireless N. It claims to be 12 times faster data transfer rate than Wireless G.

It looks like you already have a 802.11g card installed in your laptop. This will work up 54mbps to your existing router. 802.11b cards generally operate at 11mbps

Yes you are correct you can buy PCMCIA 802.11g 125mbps (using turbo mode) cards at £15 approx on ebay.

These will plug easily into your existing laptops PCMCIA slot and will work once drivers have been installed. Cannot see any problem and at £15 you can't really lose.

What 'speed' do you want to increase? connection between you and the other computers in your network? or your internet speed?
If you want to increase the speed between you and the other computer in your local network an upgrade in wireless router and card shoudl help (assuming you are currently using an old one).
If you want to increase the speed if your internet upgrading your wireless card will probably not help. any modern wifi card is rated at 11mbps (they never actually hit this but in theory... heh) if your broadband isn't faster than this upgrading your wireless wont' help you at all.

Depends on the model number. 802.11n are the fastest right now. The higher the letter (above n) the faster the speed. Check your manual or system's device manager to get the exact model number.
