You do not use a cord to play wireless on the PSP.
There are two modes to play games with other people:

Ad Hoc - Is for playing with people that are in the same general area... or the same room. I think the range is 15ft or so depending on where you are.

Infrastructure - You need a Wi-Fi connection for Infrastructure and it supports more people in a single game. And, you can play with anything on the same server, and usually North America, the EU and Japan each have their own servers.

I believe the most people in an ad-hoc game is 6 and the most for infrastructure is 16, but it depends on the game.

I don't know.. but you shiould be able to use the wireless to do that (if the game uses ad-hoc). infrastructure requires everyone connect to a wireless router (Access Point)
