everybody here seems to have a different answer. I have been a horse owner for 40 years. The land itself has the most to do with it. I have never heard or read anything other than 3 acres per horse and it has always stood true here in Vermont. You can't let it get grazed down low. It is not good for the grasses and not good for the worm situation. There is a big difference also between just rough done nothing with pasture and a seeded grazing pasture. If you put three horses on one acre as stated above you will be feeding a lot of hay year round.

It may depend on your convenants but around here its 1 acre per large animal. Personally I wouldn't go by that, plus you have to figure in other things. I would say that there could be quite a bit of horses on a 111 acres.

depends on how much of the 111 acres is pasture. as a general rule, you should allow 2 acres per horse.

A good rule of thumb to follow is 2 acres of pasture per horse. Now, I'm not sure if you want to have 55 horses or not! Another thing to consider is what type of terrain is it. You certainly do not want to have tons of horses on land that doesn't have enough grass to sustain them. A good book to help you out is Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage by Cherry Hill. Even though you have enough acres to support numerous horses, this book gives wonderful insight to planning your pasture fields, barn layouts, etc. Good Luck!

Well, three horses fit on to one acre so multiply 111 times 3. There is your answer.

Every horse should have a least 1.5 acres so if my calculations are correct you can fit about 74 horses but i would let each horse have at least 5 acres. Have fun.

It depends on the terrain if you have rolling hills and tons of grass obviously you could fit more horses than on a mountain pasture with not much grass. It really depends on your rain conditions you might only be able to have two or three horses here email me at mesocute_28@yahoo.com and i will explain

the usual rule is 1-2 horses per acre. of course, it depends on what the ground is like, and you'll want extra pastures to have in case one gets really messy. also, stallions are best alone, but other horses like pasture buddies
