Because that is how long it takes for the earth to go round the sun. We used to measure the year by the moon but once they decided to measure the year by the sun they had to add extra days in and an extra month! Although a lot of people feel that women, children and people's emotions are still ruled by the phases of the moon as well as plants, some gardeners plant by the moon, and sea creatures.

We don't.

As the Earth goes round the Sun and takes 356 and a quarter (but not quite). Thass really dumb and it caused the Romans a BIG headache (look up Wikipedia about Gregorian and Julian calendars). Even leap years don't make it quite right.

The Babylonians thought it took 360 days but then they got it wrong as well.

nice suggestion, but im afraid we cant all be that lucky! LOL!!
its cos it takes the earth 365 days to move around its heat and light source the sun. well it actuly takes 365.25 days but we cant have a '25' of a day so thats why theres a leap year evrey 4 days.....sorry im rambling!! hope i helped!
