The islands are so isolated that many people who live on outlying islands have only ever met the people delivering monthly supplies to them.

As you can imagine, diplomatic relations are tricky due to the size of the islands and their remote location. Most if not all of Maldivian diplomatic missions are actually based in Sri Lanka.

Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel and downright refuses to have talks with them, yet Malaysia is one of the most moderate Muslim countries in the world.

Indonesia has no formal diplomatic relations with Israel, but the two countries do talk informally.
