Because a real warrior does not run from a battle. And at the time Bardock was a pretty good warrior (a least considering he whooped all those other guys trying to stop him from getting to Freeza) maybe he thought he had a chance.

In the movie Bardock was given the curse of being able to see the fate of himself and his people but it turned out to be a gift when he was able to see his son defeating the tyrant freiza So he was happy and he knew it was his fate to die,like a warrior and allow a son of a low class sayin beat frieza But he took a shot at him anyway just to try anyhow.

a real sayian wont run, altho why planet vegeta didn't come back at the end of frieza saga is beyond me
